You must be wondering, what on earth is a Gradient? A gradient is the gradual blending from one color to another in contrast with the original design.
In layman terms, “It is the art of making art”!
Gradients are a significant feature of any design as it sets up the ambient background or foreground of the entire design. It is similar to choosing the color of the walls in your room. You tend to flip out if it is even one shade different.

The gradient trend is remarkably nifty as they are so eye-catching and attention-grabbing. When the trend of gradients came charging back in 2018, a lot of designers were surprised — especially when larger brand — “Instagram” hopped on board. A lot of people thought…a simple old school gradient?
Design websites like Web Design Ledger and Smashing Magazine constantly wrote about how gradients have ‘made comeback’ for quite some time now. Changing their logo to a gradient base established Instagram as a trendsetter, because ever since then, the web got flooded with gradients. They have proved to be a steady graphic trend for the last couple of years.

Somewhat reminiscent to Instagram logo redesign, the trending online dating website, “Tinder” also replaced its text-based logo and replaced it with a new interpretation of its gradient flame symbol.
Other examples would include, the online shopping beauty store — “Nykaa”, the $6 — billion “Adani Group” who redesigned their entire website using gradient technique. The new looks and approach are well appreciated by the viewers.

But lately, it seems like gradients aren’t the default: they’re the trend and because it involves mixing and blending of so many different shades of color, these stunning vibrant color transitions create combinations that feel different, modern and make them stand out.
Word-Art moved on…and so should you:

We have all treasured those days when the predefined layouts on “WordArt” were the go-to-solution for adding excitement to your title, watermark, or other text in your publication. But those designs have become obsolete with today’s techniques and oversimplified methods. A major reason for such a change is the drastic surge in the viewer’s expectations and the growing market trends.
Gradient design consists of several key points that one has to keep in mind while choosing it. They are fairly simple and you surely do not require a Master’s degree to do it!
So it is fairly obvious to choose a gradient that suits your design and should be personalized according to the various aspects of the graphic.
Easy on the eyes!

The gradient you select should have certain qualities that make the design more interesting and not bluntly discernible. Try to consider some points like:-
- The contrast of the background should be distinguishable from the written text.
- The gradient color should be able to signify the mood of the logo. For example, if the logo is for a summer party you can use warm colors or a dark themed logo for an evening event.
- Try to familiarize yourself with the basic gradient designs and work your way up on that.
- A smooth transition between different colors can provide a groovy design.
My graphic, my color!

Gradient technique provides the designer the freedom to create and experiment with new and altered colors and textures. But keep in mind… not all designs might work so keep a check on what matches and what doesn’t.
